The Dark Knight

I had no plans on seeing this movie. Ever. I hated 'Batman Begins', and so it's sequel was not something I was looking forward to. However, a friend managed to convince me, mostly because he thought I should and I trust his opinion.

X- Entertainment...ummm...it's not what you think

I read. I read more than most human beings. More than most human beings who would say they are readers. And years ago, I discovered X-Entertainment. When I'm bored, and want to read something on the net...I usually find myself at X-E.

Shrek the Third

I watched 'Shrek the Third' this evening. Yep, it's how I kicked off my three weeks of vacation. (That, and several episodes of 'Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends'. But that's another post for another day.)

Everyone told me this movie was terrible, and not to bother watching it. Now, to the credit of my friends, they're usually right. Don't watch 'X-3', they said. I did, and regretted it. That's just one example. Well, guess what? They were wrong about Shrek.

Hello, and Yakitate! Japan for you all. (Slight spoilers.)

Yes...for those of you that know, this is my second LJ. For those that don't...never you mind. I made this one so I can ramble away about what amuses me without clogging the f-lists of people who didn't friend me to read about my random blatherings. I will post about movies, music, books, games, what have you.......and for my first post, I will talk about...Yakitate! Japan.

As with most of my manga/anime, Yakitate! Japan is aimed at boys. The funny thing about this show is that it's about baking. Baking bread, to be more specific. Now, I can practically feel the incredulous look on your face. I know, believe me. Everyone makes that face until they actually watch the show. Then they realize it's pretty funny, and very captivating.

Basically, you have the protagonist, Azuma Kazuma, who enters a bread-making competition in order to win a spot at Pantasia, a famous chain of bakeries. Kazuma is kind of an idiot savant in the world of bread, and possessed of 'Solar Hands', warm hands that helps the yeast ferment better, thus improving any bread he makes. The first arc consists of him making various types of his own bread creations, 'Ja-pans'. (A reference to his desire to create a purely Japanese bread, and a pun, as 'pan' means 'bread'. The title of the show translates to 'Freshly-Baked! Ja-pan.)

The second arc has Kazuma and friends participating in the Monaco Cup (...of bread-baking) and the third and last arc has them on a television show, trying to save their bakery. The last story arc wasn't the best, and the ending wasn't very good. Overall, though, I highly recommend the series, and with a total of 69 episodes, it'll keep you busy, but you will eventually get to the end.

The bread made in the show is often very unique, and always tasty-looking. My bread craving was always really bad watching this show. In Japan, they even made and sold some of the bread made on the show. Heck of a tasty tie-in, and one I wish I could have tried.

The show is full of cultural references, Japanese ones, of course, but also to things such as 'Lord of the Rings'. Yakitate! Japan is not afraid to make fun of itself, and it's all the better because of that fact. It also includes a lot of technical information, and even some tips on bread-making. One episode has a recipe for bread made in a rice-cooker. (I still haven't tried that.)

I own the entire series, and have watched it twice through. It is definitely one of my favourite shows.
